The Open Field Studio, is an independent art programme, providing a studio space for art and drawing in different locations. The aim is to create a place for drawing as a practice, to experiment, reflect and generate visual ideas through a process-led experience.

Drawing is its own art form and underpins all art disciplines; it is a primary practice that emphasises concentration and sustained attention, through the hand, eye and line. The simplicity and directness of drawing makes it accessible, honest and radical; drawing provides a basis for investigation into and experience of perception and expression. We will engage in a series of drawing and material studies, to explore intention and to develop your own discernment and method. Exercises will be structured but open, encouraging form and meaning to emerge through process. Each studio session will support observational and relational thinking and encourage exploring the attributes in traditional drawing mediums.

We will look at Modernist and Contemporary artworks for art perspectives, approaches and concepts to inform your own work. The focus will be on the value of drawing as expression, critique or process, as an open-ended outcome or resolved composition. All levels of experience are welcome; the exercises are designed to engage in your own way.

About me:

My name is Kelly and I have a BA in Fine Art and Visual Culture. Sculpture was my major and studio practice, with a foundation in Drawing, Art History and Community Arts Development. My interest in Modernist Drawing and Sculpture, influenced the structure and content of this programme. Drawing and Sculpture are complimentary disciplines; both examine form and space as a way of visual thinking, decision making and expression. Drawing is a formative and reflective practice and a valuable discipline to inform all other fields or disciplines. My role is to facilitate a studio experience, and to support an inclusive and welcoming space. My personal interests are in Art (Drawing, Sculpture, Collage, Photography) Film, Music, Books, Architecture and Design.
